Second Transcript- Flying Solo

After reflecting on my previous transcript I realised that my generic content was refined enough and the whole scene I had set it in was suitable for the task we were meant to be completing. Therefore I made a new version set in just the entrance of an airport.

Script

Flying solo

When you enter the airport I want you to take a moment to take in your surroundings. Try not to be in anyone's way as airports tend to be busy. Walk up and down the airport entrance. Look at the people passing you, look at the signs and everything around you that people are involved in. Find yourself somewhere to sit. Look around and find someone. Take a moment to think about them. Where are they going? Why are they going? What are they doing? What are they thinking.  Look at one of the signs and follow the sign to find its destination. When you are there listen to the sounds; the beeping, clicking and chatter in the air. Listen to the announcements on the speakers. Find the nearest window or door, somewhere where the sky is visible. Can you see any planes taking off or landing? Where do you want to go on a plane? Would you go with family or friends or would you just fly solo. Watch the sky and imagine your perfect destination.

My Generic Content

My first Podcast's generic content wasn't nearly refined enough. When people listen to these podcast's, they should be able to listen to them anywhere and everywhere. For example, one airport will have many similar features to another, however there will differences as well and this means I need to use generic vocabulary and not be too specific so all the listeners can have an equally effective experience without having to use their imagination too much.

My podcast's overall generic content is wrong. I talk about checking in, security and the departure waiting room. However my listener would need to be able to go straight to an airport without having a holiday booked. Therefore these scenes wouldn't be generic to the experience. They are generic to the location, but the experience I am trying to build would not fit with these features.

Therefore none of these features will be able to be featured in the final podcast.

Refining the Generic Content
The features that are generic to the entrance/foyer of an airport are:

  • Benches
  • Trolleys
  • People- both people in a rush and calm people
  • Announcements
  • Cafes
  • Signs
These are the type of features I will need to include to refine my generic content. I think I can be creative with these features even with simple ideas.
